Dr. James Talbot

BSc, BDS (Otago), FDS RCS (England), MSc (London)

After completing his undergraduate dental degree in New Zealand James enjoyed the challenges of working in hospitals in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. He completed extensive post graduate training in England which included becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (in Oral Surgery), and a Masters in Conservative Dentistry (with Distinction) from London University. He was privileged to have then worked as an Associate Specialist in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal London Hospital before returning to New Zealand.

James has a practice limited to complex dentistry, including dental implants, veneers, and crowns, helping patients deal with tooth wear, missing teeth and reconstructing smiles that have deteriorated or have been lost entirely.  While most of his patients are referred to his practice by other Dentists and Dental Specialists, he is available for patients who wish to self-refer to discuss changes to their smile and bite, for complex care and/or second opinions.

An avid believer in continued professional development, James reads widely, keeps on top of changes in the dental world and speaks regularly at a local and national level on conservative treatments for wear, missing teeth, aesthetic dentistry, and implants.

He is a regular contributor to working groups and committees with ACC and the Dental Council, and he is an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.  He also works at Hutt Hospital, helping with the care of patients with head and neck cancer, cleft lip and palates, and with syndromes that affect patients' teeth.

Home life is busy for James and his wife, being parents to four children.  As a family they enjoy the great outdoors, partaking in activities such as biking, swimming, and camping.
